2. Information We Collect

Information you give us directly, such as when you place an order, create an account, sign up for our email or text list, request an invoice, book a class, or contact us: your name, email address, phone number, mailing/shipping address, and payment and transaction information necessary to complete your purchase. Full payment-card information is entered directly into and processed by our payment processor and is not stored by Sowing Joy (see Section 5).

Information collected automatically when you browse our website: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring website, and general location, gathered through cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 4).

Order and transaction information, including what you purchased and delivery preferences.

Sources of this information. We collect personal information directly from you, automatically through your interactions with our website and devices, and in some cases from service providers and advertising partners described in this policy.

We do not currently collect personal information from farm visitors during in-person, self-serve visits, beyond what you may voluntarily provide (for example, by joining our email list on-site or purchasing at the farm stand). [If Sowing Joy photographs or films visitors, workshops, weddings, or events for marketing purposes, that practice should be addressed through event terms or a photo release rather than folded into this policy — flagging for confirmation with Ondrea.]

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Fulfill and ship your orders and process payments
• Communicate with you about your order, invoices, and customer service requests
• Send marketing emails and text messages, if you've opted in, and separately send transactional communications like order confirmations and shipping updates (see Section 7)
• Improve our website, products, and customer experience
• Run and measure the performance of our advertising
• Meet our legal, tax, accounting, and recordkeeping obligations
• Detect and prevent fraud and protect the security of our website and business

4. Cookies, Pixels & Advertising Technology

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies, including tools from Shopify (our platform), Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, the Meta Pixel (Facebook/Instagram), and Google Ads conversion tracking.

What this means in plain terms: when you visit our site, certain information about your visit and activity — such as pages viewed and products browsed — may be shared with Google and Meta so that we can measure how our ads are performing and show you (or people like you) relevant ads on Google, Instagram, and Facebook. Depending on how this data sharing is configured, it may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under some state privacy laws (see Section 8), even though no money changes hands. • You can block or limit cookies generally through your browser settings. Note that blocking cookies may affect how parts of our site function.
• A cookie-consent banner and "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" mechanism are available on our website, allowing visitors to manage their cookie and tracking preferences directly.

5. Payment Processing

Payments made through our website are processed by Shopify Payments. When you check out, your payment card details are transmitted directly to Shopify's secure payment infrastructure — we do not store your full card number on our own systems. Shopify's handling of your payment data is governed by Shopify's own privacy policy.

6. Shipping & Fulfillment and Other Service Providers

When you place an order for shipment, we share the necessary details (name, address, phone number) with FedEx so they can deliver your order. We currently ship to the contiguous United States only (excluding Hawaii and Alaska).

We may also share personal information with other service providers and third parties who help us run our business, including our website and e-commerce platform (Shopify), payment processor (Shopify Payments), advertising and analytics providers (Google, Meta), accountants and bookkeepers, other professional advisers, IT and security providers, and fraud-prevention services. We may also disclose information when required to do so by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Sowing Joy, our customers, or others.

7. Email & Text Marketing

If you sign up for our email list, we use Shopify Email to send you newsletters, product updates, and promotions. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link at the bottom of any email. Unsubscribing from marketing emails does not opt you out of transactional communications — such as order confirmations, shipping notifications, and invoices — which we may continue to send you as needed to service your order.

If you opt in to text messages, we use Shopify's SMS tools. Customers who affirmatively opt in may receive order updates and marketing texts; consent to receive texts is not a condition of purchase. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency may vary. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or reply HELP for assistance. [The exact opt-in language, consent flow, and disclosures at checkout/signup should be reviewed against the live Shopify SMS program to confirm they match this description.]

8. Your Privacy Rights (California and Other States)

Depending on where you live, and to the extent applicable law applies to Sowing Joy, you may have certain privacy rights under state privacy laws — including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA) and other U.S. state privacy laws. Many of these laws only apply to businesses that meet certain thresholds (for example, based on revenue, the volume of consumer data handled, or the extent of data sales), so not every business is covered by every law, and this section describes the rights you may have where applicable law does apply.

Where applicable, these rights generally include the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion of your information, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (including for targeted advertising, as described in Section 4).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at ondrea@sowingjoyfarm.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

Deletion requests and exceptions. Even where a deletion right applies, we may retain certain information as permitted or required by law — for example, records needed for tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, or legal-dispute purposes, or to complete a transaction you've already requested.

A "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" mechanism is available on our website (see Section 4) for visitors who wish to opt out of tracking used for advertising purposes.

9. Data Retention

We generally retain personal information, and transaction and business records, for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to meet our tax, accounting, legal, and recordkeeping requirements. For example, we generally retain accounting and transaction records for seven (7) years to meet our tax and accounting obligations. Marketing contact information is retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Actual retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and the practices of the service providers we use (such as Shopify).

10. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect the personal information we collect. That said, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children's Privacy

Our services are intended for adults and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have done so, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

12. Third-Party Links

Our website may link to third-party sites (such as our social media pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and we encourage you to review their policies.
